Me As A Consumer Of Music

Me As A Consumer Of Music

I listen to music daily as it is quite an important thing in my life and is a part of many of my routines. I listen to music through my phone or through the radio. I listen to the radio when I am cooking or when my radio alarm clock wakes me up in the mornings. I mainly listen to my music on my phone when doing school work as background noise, tidying the house and most of the time I plug my phone in when I drive so I can listen to what I enjoy. I either play my music through speakers or plug my headphones in.

If an artist I enjoy releases an album I do go and purchase it from a music store. I then put the songs onto my ITunes so I can play the music on my phone/laptop. I also stream music from YouTube a lot since it is free and I don’t have to spend anything but my time getting the music. Once the music downloaded to my computer I would put them onto my ITunes and then onto my phone. Recently, I decided to purchase Apple Music and so far, I have enjoyed it. It is much easier to access all my favourite songs and I can download them anytime and keep them on my library and continue to make playlists. I can access much more music than I could before and only pay a small amount of money a month for it. It is also a lot less time consuming for myself and has extras such as showing artists and information about the songs/artists.

I don’t really have a favourite genre since I mostly listen to what is in the charts or trending on the radio/music channels. I would say I mainly listen to Pop, R&B/Soul Dance and others. I never go for just one genre as I always have a mixture of songs I love to listen to. I would say some of my favourite artists are Coldplay, Calvin Harris, Geko, Raye, Beyonce ect. Again, I listen to a range of music genres therefore, leading me to liking different artists. I have always listened to the radio since a young age, especially Radio 1. I always hear the latest music and what is trending within the social community therefore taking interest mainly in what is in the charts. Also, a lot of the music I listen to links to my dance career. I have always had music within my life due to me dancing since the young age of three; music is quite important to me because of this.

Along with my career within Dance influencing my music interest my parents also had a big part of what music I listened to when growing up. The radio would always be playing within our household ever since I was young and still does now. My Dad especially takes interest in the Radio due to his career being a Builder consequently, having the radio on throughout the day as something to listen to. Mainly when I was younger, we had lots of music albums which were a variety of genres. We also had most of the ‘Now’ albums which had all the trendiest songs on from each year, which I enjoyed listening to most. Two artists I remember most from my childhood are Robbie Williams and Madonna. My Mum was very fond of these two artists and so was I hence listening to many of their songs. Furthermore, these artists and songs are very like the genres I listen to now, which shows the influence they had on me when I was younger.

Genres I don’t enjoy as much are Classical or Rock/Heavy Metal. These genres wouldn’t be my go to interests due to my influences and interests. Although I dance to classical every week due to my dance career in Ballet, I wouldn’t enjoy listening to it outside my dance aspect; classical stays in the studio!
